Derivative work incorporating a copyrighted reconstruction. — Racconish 💬 06:16, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
Though I have myself uploaded the current version of the file, after Mayimbú noticed his own upload was defective and contacted me, I wonder if the copyright status of this film allows us to keep it. It is a well known fact this version is not, at least to a significant extent, a restoration of the original hand-colored version but a contemporary digital reconstruction and an interpretative digital colorization, "more a visual effects project in a way than a restoration project" per Tom Burton [1]. See in particular the articles here, here and here. A community discussion is therefore necessary. Clindberg and Asclepias, your opinions would be welcome. — Racconish 💬 06:29, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
InverseHypercube, we have the same issue with

- Comment There's a brief note at the beginning of the restored colored version:
Digital tools avaiable today allow re-assemby of the fragments of the 13,375 frames of the film and restore them, one by one. Missing frames, lost or too damaged, have been taken from the black and white version, then colored.
Analyzing the full video, there are various frames that were digitally colored. You can tell by the change in contrast and quality on various parts (it appears that the original colored version is the one with less contrast and the one with more stable colors is the colored black and white). --Mayimbú (talk) 19:26, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Kept: per the analysis by Mayimbu: It looks as if single frames were restored inbetween frames that still had the original colors. The restorations tried to match the original colors and shapes of the original, so I don't believe any creativity influenced the restoration. --Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 12:32, 16 November 2019 (UTC)
- Deleted: After Racconish contacted me on my talk page, I reviewed the linked articles in more depth. And since several film critics consider the restored version a separate work, we need to delete these items per the PCP. Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 09:56, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
