Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, A1Cafel!

Request: Please, name files with good file names, before you upload. edit

You recently uploaded this File:-i---i- (53606436734).jpg.

You later added [1] this file to Category:Files from Flickr with bad file names

Since you have used com:flickr2commons tool for many years, you know that users can change any file name before you upload the file(s). Additionally, any original file name can be changed with any "prefix" descriptive wording that users choose- which will create "good file names." This just takes a few seconds, before you upload a file.

Upload Wizard also allows user to change file names before uploading files.

This Category:Files from Flickr with bad file names already has over 45,000 files. You can help prevent creating even more work by other volunteers, by taking a little of your time to make good names before uploading files with "bad names." Can you do that? Thank you, -- Ooligan (talk) 00:26, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

A1Cafel, you know, you reasonably expected responses when you post to others talk pages. I checked to see if you responded, and you did not. Your behaviour is incredibly problematic, and can be seen on the ANU report. Your lack of response on this issue is not helping you in any way. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 05:57, 21 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I will make use of the "Prefix selected names" function to added meaningful filenames before uploaded. Even I missed it, I will submit a file rename request to change it. --A1Cafel (talk) 02:13, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I would like to note that my intention and hope here is that this block is not permanent. As I posted on my talk page in response to concerns (link, permalink), my intention here is that the bar for a successful unblock request is quite low. (A1Cafel: that link also contains some advice for an unblock request.) I ask that I be pinged in any unblock request (ideally by A1Cafel, but alternatively by someone else, and regardless whether a reviewing admin is thinking of granting or declining) so that I can hopefully help facilitate this. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 02:43, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Unblock request edit

Unblock request granted

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request.

Request reason: "After nearly a month of collecting myself, I think it's an appropriate time for me to submit an unblock request.

The main reason of getting block is the attempt of removal the AN discussion involving myself, despite starting by an IP. I understand that I shouldn't be the one to remove such discussion, even it is disruptive in nature. It should be removed by other users or admins, and they are able to give a fair judgement on this. I also learned to respect IP users as most of them are also contributing properly on Commons. They should be treated as the same as registered users.

Another reason of getting a block is lack of communication, as stated in the AN thread. I think I keep myself away from such AN thread is not a big problem, but it ended up reflecting my reluctant to communicate with others to deal with some issues. I need to make meaningful response to such thread to show my communication and the wills to collaborate with other users to deal with the issues identified in the thread.

For the issues brought in the AN thread. One of them is the mass uploading from Flickr having DW/FoP issues, I will spotcheck the files before importing them to Commons, especially for a set of files. For the duplicate issues during Flickr upload, I will spotcheck the Flickr ID of the files before importing them to make sure they are not already uploaded here. I will also make use of the "Flickr tag" options of F2C as I discover that it is also an effective way to check those files already on Commons. If I uploaded images with DW/FOP issues, I will submit it to speedy deletion. For duplicate images, now OptimusPrimeBot has the function to tag the files uploaded later as duplicates, so the duplicate "mistag" will not happen as mentioned by Mdaniels.

Lastly, I apologize for those who affect by my inappropriate behaviour (including the IP users). Also, pinging @Mdaniels5757: as he requires me to ping him in any unblock request, regards.--A1Cafel (talk) 14:58, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
